SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

The Media Relations Specialist is involved in all aspects of the development and implementation of the University’s media-based communication strategies, including promoting and protecting the University's reputation by developing and executing media and public relations strategies, plans and initiatives through the use of various media outlets.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Develops and executes a comprehensive media strategy for Ajman University.
  2. Ensures high-quality copywriting in English and Arabic, including case studies, testimonials, newsletters, press releases, Q&A, pitch letters and more.
  3. Prepares press releases and media materials for distribution, gathers and organizes complementary visuals and ensures that all the pieces of the story come together in a flawless and appealing package for journalists.
  4. Provides media coverage for all strategic events and activities.
  5. Prepares a coverage report for each event and activity.
  6. Identifies newsworthy angles that will trigger featured articles and interviews.
  7. Organizes press conferences and media tours.
  8. Builds and maintains Ajman University’s reputation and relationships with local, regional and international media outlets and key influencers.
  9. Contributes to the expansion of Ajman University’s media network and database.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION:

Reports to the Manager of Office of Strategic Communications, Marketing and Student Recruitment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's/Master’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  • At least five years of professional experience in a Media Relations role or in Copywriting.
  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with strong writing and editorial abilities in both English and Arabic.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, media monitoring software, and other public relation tools.
  • Demonstrated success with Social Media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and others.
  • Must possess strong project management skills.
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines and execute flawlessly on projects in a fast-paced, often pressured environment and see a project through to completion.
